Kathleen M. Walker
Kathleen M. Walker is a commercial lawyer, specializing in intellectual property, brand protection, real estate transactions, commercial contracts and commercial litigation. Matt Bottomly
Matt Bottomly is an intellectual property attorney, focused largely on patents and tech-related matters. Matt generally introduces himself as a “nerd lawyer” as he tries to fit in with the scientists and engineers, and his practice leads him more frequently to laboratories and production floors than court rooms and C-suites. Matt is a former patent examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, where he examined U.S. patents as part of the nanotech semiconductor art unit. Additionally, Matt has practiced in-house at major entertainment, data storage, and consumer electronics companies as well as at a major AmLaw 100 law firm. Matt practices from the North Shore of Oahu and is a member of both the United States patent bar and the California bar.

Matt also advises clients on international IP portfolios. Matt is especially focused on providing efficient patent prosecution solutions that both lower client IP costs and reduce the delay before patents can issue.

Matt regularly advises his clients on general matters affecting technology companies, including IP licensing, joint development agreements, fulfillment agreements, employment agreements, and patent portfolio analysis. Matt also regularly provides general legal strategy to start-up tech companies. As part of his patent practice, Matt works hands-on with the underlying scientific and engineering concepts of his clients. Matt prides himself on being a scientist, a nerd, and an attorney. Matt has an undergraduate degree in Astrophysics and worked in nanotechnology. Matt is also a serial tinkerer and inventor, having patented a number of his own inventions.
Personal
Matt is a father of 3 young kids. Matt enjoys international travel, time with his family, playing and watching ice hockey, tinkering, and kite surfing. When you don’t find Matt behind a computer screen, you may find him at the beach, hunched over his 3D printer, or playing on Hawaii’s only hockey rink.
